In Memoriam
Stormie’s story was largely unknown. She was found as a stray with significant health issues. Caught with a catch pole and dragged to the shelter. After some unpleasant interactions with shelter staff, who said she growled and was unable to be handled, she was quickly given a euthanasia date. I got her out and got her the veterinary care she needed. I thought that she would fully recover and live a happy life with an adopter in Las Vegas. I didn’t think her story would end so soon. I thought she would get the happy ending we all wanted for her, and that she deserved. Her skin was healing. Her fur was growing back. After taking her back to CARES we discovered she had end stage cancer. The mass on her kidney had ruptured and they couldn’t save her. It’s likely that her owners knew that she was sick and dumped her because of it. I’m grateful that she spent her last weeks with me in my home, curled up next to me on the couch and going for nice walks outside, but it still doesn’t feel like a happy ending and I’m sobbing as I type this. I had her cremated and was waiting to share this update until I had her back with me, which as of today I finally do. Thank you to everyone who donated to her care and who continues to support what we do. We want to save more dogs and we cannot do it without you. This really does take a village. We hope this update, though sad, brings closure and we know that Stormie is resting peacefully wherever she is across the rainbow bridge.
